Looking for romance? The fresh air and beautiful scenery in Evergreen, Colorado is the perfect place to connect and have fun. Whether it’s a special occasion like Valentine’s Day or a weekend getaway for couples, love is in the air when you visit the mountains.

Most of us can agree that planning a romantic getaway is great for our relationships. But, did you know that the benefits go way beyond just fun? Studies show that couples who travel together have stronger communication and more intimacy as well as lower divorce rates than those who don’t. Plus, romantic activities that include getting outdoors reduce stress and increase vitality, strengthening your relationship. Try spending time in nature and taking a moment to pause on your next date.

Below are some ideas for planning your next romantic getaway in the mountain town of Evergreen, Colorado.

Stay overnight in a mountain lodge

To truly unwind and reconnect, plan an overnight stay or a longer vacation. Evergreen has several lodging options ranging from private cabins to classic hotel rooms and everything in between. The Alpen Way Chalet is tucked into the hillside where elk frequently graze but it is still within walking distance of Main Street and the lake. Our Romance Packages add an extra special touch to your getaway. A fresh bouquet of flowers and a bottle of champagne or local wine set the scene for relaxing by the fire or planning an outdoor adventure.

Located just 30 minutes from Denver and an hour from the airport, Evergreen is the perfect location for an overnight stay. This small town has so much to explore ranging from shopping and restaurants to hiking, fishing, and ice skating. When you aren’t exploring with your loved ones, relax in our hot tub or sit next to the creek while bird-watching.

Get outdoors at Evergreen Lake

Ice skating hand in hand while the snow falls is straight from the script of a movie. In the winter, Evergreen Lake has a large groomed skating rink as well as skate rentals and hot cocoa for you to make this romantic scene a reality.

During the summer you can rent paddle boats or stand-up paddle boards at the same location. Regardless of your skill level, floating on the cool water is fun for everyone. If you’re not interested in a water activity, then try a romantic walk around the lake. This pleasant trail is relatively flat and leads you past the waterfall at the dam. There is great bird-watching from the raised trail over the creek where elk are often getting a drink or taking a swim.

For more challenging hikes check out nearby Alderfer Three Sisters; the Sisters trail or Brothers lookout trail will both give you a fantastic view of nearby 14ers. Stagecoach trail at Elk Meadow is worth it when you see the views from the top of Bergen Peak.

Be creative in downtown Evergreen

Impress your partner by trying something new. Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, getting creative is a great way to relax and have fun. The final product isn’t what is important – it’s the experience.

You won’t have to look far for inspiration. Go Paint! is a paint-your-own pottery studio just off Main street. They provide the paint and you choose the pottery to decorate. Once it’s complete you get to take it home. Or, enjoy an adult beverage during an artist-led painting class. Evergreen Art School and many of the local galleries offer ‘paint n sip’ events as well as private art lessons.

If you’re more interested in viewing art than creating it, check out the local galleries. You can find one-of-a-kind art, jewelry, pottery, and more as you walk down Main Street. And, there is a rotating collection of sculptures for the public to enjoy throughout the town. Known as the ‘Sculpture Walk’ visitors can download a map and view the beautiful displays that are also available for purchase.

Reserve a table at a fine-dining restaurant

As the sun goes down you can find a cozy table for two at several fine-dining establishments in Evergreen. Some of our favorites for a romantic lunch or dinner are listed below.

Creekside Cellars is a winery and restaurant open for lunch year round. They have an intimate patio overlooking Upper Bear Creek. During the colder months, you can enjoy wine tasting in the cellar next to the barrels. Their delicious wines are made from Colorado-grown grapes and are available for purchase by the bottle, glass, or even a wine club.

The views of Evergreen Lake are phenomenal at Willow Creek restaurant and market. Patio dining during the warmer months is picturesque, but the large windows offer views year-round. If visiting for Valentine’s Day make reservations in advance and you can enjoy an impressive three-course menu. If your idea of a romantic evening is a picnic or eating in the privacy of your lodge room, then try their provisions market and To-Go meals.

The Bistro  is a staple of fine dining in Evergreen. Originally a Tea Room built in 1923, the restaurant has the ambiance of a romantic mountain cabin. You and your date can enjoy a special Valentine’s Day menu next to the grand fireplace or in the sunroom overlooking a meadow. Friday night specials and a small dining room mean this place fills up quickly, so reservations are recommended.

Located at the golf course next to the lake, Keys on the Green offers Date Night every Saturday with a special date night menu that includes a bottle of house wine. In the summer you can sit out on their patio, but winter nights by the fireplace are also romantic and not to be missed.

Looking for a more casual night out? Evergreen also has breweries, burgers, and pizza joints. And, if Valentine’s Day is not your thing, then check out Cactus Jack’s annual “Valentine’s Day Sucks” party. As the name implies, this is the opposite of a traditional date night, but that’s what makes it fun. Mix things up with drink specials and live music at this local bar.
